The things I like in tops: easy, sleeveless and flowy. Things I hate in tops: darts. But because this Sorbetto Top pattern from Colette Patterns had all of my “likes”, I decided to overlook my hatred for the darts.

I picked a very flowing fabric in a color that I’d be able to wear in the summer months as is or in the winter months with a sweater.

The fabric is flowy enough to give a good drape and the pattern just busy enough to hide any mistakes.

The next part was tricky for me but might not be with a firmer fabric. You have to lay the piece flat and iron it but be sure that it lays evenly on either side on the seam you just sewed. After some wiggling and lots of steam, I got it where I wanted it to baste the top and bottom.

From this point, the rest is super easy! After sewing the side seams, I worked on the arm holes and neckline. I used black bias tape for a contrast not only in color but in texture too. I wanted the slippery fabric to be a bit more stable so I didn’t create my own bias tape from the same fabric.

I finished the bottom hem by serging, folding and top stitching. I have paired this shirt with jean shorts, black shorts and bright mustard shorts. My favorite are the bright mustard shorts from Old Navy.
