When I first saw these pants, I knew that I wanted to make them from linen. But, because it is still FREEZING in Ohio, I thought about making something a little more snuggly. As I looked through fabric that I already had in my stash, I saw a color that would look fabulous as the detailed pockets. Am I about to make a pair of pants from a certain fabric just because I think the pockets will look cool? Yep!
In the winter, sweatshirts are my only wardrobe. I have always lived in the midwest: grew up in Pittsburgh and now live in Columbus, Ohio. When you have lived thru snow and ice and wind, you dress warm to stay sane. And it doesn’t help that I am ALWAYS cold.
When I saw this pattern, I knew that the many variations would suit me well during the freezing weather. The Sloane Sweater has a bodice that can be hemmed or finished with a band. You can add a hoodie or a front pocket. There are so many combinations in one pattern!
The things I like in tops: easy, sleeveless and flowy. Things I hate in tops: darts. But because this Sorbetto Top pattern from Colette Patterns had all of my “likes”, I decided to overlook my hatred for the darts.
If you haven’t read my journal entry on the Carrie Cardigan, I found this fabric at JoAnn’s on the clearance rack. I love the color and the softness so much that I bought a bunch of yardage. Since I already made a Carrie Cardigan with it, I can’t wait to see how this Taos Top turns out.
Having never sewn knit or sewn knit on my serger, I was hoping for the best! I read up on sewing knits: the correct needles, not stretching as you sew, etc. I crossed my fingers and went slowly.
Let’s talk about bodies. Sometimes you see an outfit on someone else and think, “That looks so cute! I totally want one for myself.” Then, you get the pattern, buy the fabric and make that outfit only to have it look awful! When this happens to me, I need to force myself to take a minute and tell myself that the outfit looking different has nothing to do with me AND everything to do with me.
